NAC Match Report Bacton 7th September 2020
After an absence of over 6 months due to the COVID 19 pandemic it was a case of welcome back to NAC members to the first winter league match of the 2020 – 2021 winter league. The location in Bacton was new, easy to find and easy to walk down to the beach. Only slight issue was the high-level entry barrier keeping Ian Wells and new member John Spalton unable to access the car park in their respective vehicles.
With everyone gathered, 13 members agreed to no pegging just a simple walk off in order with low numbers lining up towards the gas terminal and the higher numbers towards the caravans. With a low expectation of large fish, it was agreed to fish over 18cm and conversion to weight points. All were keen to cast out and take advantage of the incoming tide although there was much frowning as early casts brought in a few bits of weed. Would we catch and what would we catch?
After an hour or so with the tide heading in at pace, fish arrived (for some). For a first night of the league 12 caught 67 fish, a total of 978 weight points (20lb 6/16 oz) not a bad night overall. The haul included 51 whiting, 10 flounder, 2 bass, 1 turbot (see picture), 1 sole and 2 dabs. The biggest round was a 39cm Bass caught by Ian Wells off Peg 2, the biggest flat was a 28 cm Flounder caught by Neil Rowe from Peg 7.
Match Result:
The first podium spot of the Winter League went to Ian Wells (Peg 2) who caught 7 fish for 183 weight points, No 2 podium position to Barry Iseton fishing off Peg 13, unlucky for some – but not Barry who managed to include a turbot amongst his 8 fish with 124 weight points. No 3 spot went to Neil Rowe Peg 7 with 8 fish 104 weight points.
A good nights fishing, a nice way to start the new season. Welcome back all
