NAC Report 19-12-16 Salthouse

NAC Report 19th December 2017 Salthouse

Another excellent turnout, with 22 anglers on the beach at Salthouse, a new Junior angler making her debut, but more about her later on, also a welcome back to David Aldridge.

Anyway on with the report, another flat calm evening we pegged to the left of the car park, with Ben Nicholson pegging for the first time as he had secured peg 1 in the draw.

A difficult start for most with plenty of undersized whiting and dabs coming in 3 a chuck and as we seen from the last match at Salthouse it can be a bit peggy, this match was to be no different with the better bags showing up to the left.

Using peg one to great advantage it was Ben Nicholson who took his first podium spot with 16 fish for 6lb 10oz, 2nd podium spot went to the slightly healthier Russell Taylor on peg 4 with 17 fish for 6lb 5 2/3oz, 3rd place and second week in a row in the top three was Ian Wells on peg 3 with 13 fish for 5lb 13 2/3oz.

The top 3 were all pretty close, but the real battle was down on peg 20 and 21 where father and daughter were clashing for the first time, I watched the initial coaching given by Richard Hipperson to his daughter Tash and they began the match on level terms, but it soon became apparent that Tash was a cut above her dad and by the end of the night she was coaching and consoling him, a battered ego to go along with Tash’s battered fish for the next few days, so very well done to Tash and welcome to the club (that’s the beating your dad club as well as the NAC).

As always the banter was good and some excellent fishing had by the majority, its nice to see so many new faces joining the club and doing well, please make sure to tell your friends and lets make the club even bigger for 2017

Next Match is Monday 2nd January, it is scheduled for the Old High, (which will be Sheringham to the left of lifeboat) but Charlie is going to test the waters up at Heacham so please be aware a last minute change will be announced if Heacham is fishing well.

Hope you all have a great Christmas and a happy new year.

NAC Report 12-12-16 Bacton

A flat calm evening with little wind but plenty of persistent drizzle saw our numbers depleted this week, but still 14 of us soldiered on, as tonight was a rover everyone spread out from the first set of revetments along the sea wall to the right.
Fish were coming in from the off but mainly undersized whiting, which was very frustrating, some members played the percentage game and tried for one of the big flounders but it was only Kimberley Lawn who managed to winkle a good 34cm one out. The constant drizzle helped a couple to pack up early, but for the most the struggle was finding sizeable fish in amongst the masses of undersized.
Yet another new member to join is Ian Wells, he is certainly no stranger to Monday evening match fishing as we have fished against each other a long time ago in another league, finally getting back into it he showed he hadn’t lost his touch and took the top podium spt with 7 fish for lb 8 2/3oz beating Dene Conway in 2nd place by one fish, with 6 fish for 2lb 3 1/3oz, final podium spot this week went t Luke Childerhouse who has recently found some good form and is producing consistent results, with 4 fish for 1lb 14 2/3oz.
All in all, it was a hard match with many fish caught but sadly most were undersized.
Next week’s match is back on the shingle at Salthouse, let’s hope the fishing gods and the weather gods smile upon us.

NAC Report 5-12-16 Kelling

NAC Report 5/12/16 Kelling

Another fantastic turnout for the Norfolk Angling Club, with 19 members arriving at Kelling for what was forecast to be a cold one with freezing fog, a few of our members were away or ill, so we would have had approx 25 fishing, which is great for a small monday night league, well done to all who braved the conditions.

Pegging was left and right of the gate , and as we assembled along the match stretch to what looked a perfect whiting sea, everyone was eager to get started, it was decided before the match that due to the possible numbers of fish we would continue fishing to size limits, so the missed length only match was abandoned, a good choice but for some frustration as they were plagued by undersize whiting and dabs.

Historically the wreck end of the venue normally fishes better than to the left but tonight we were to be shown that venues can often make you rethink and can often throw up surprises, this is why we all fish because you just never know what is going to happen.

Many struggled for the first hour fighting off undersized whiting and dabs, but as the match progressed some good fish were being carded all along the match stretch.vAs the graph shows the first 3 pegs opposite the carpark seemed to be the hotspot, with most fish coming from around the 80yard mark.

This week it was Luke Childerhouse who was on the fish, with a steady stream of sizeables to take top spot on the podium with 24 fish for 8lb 6 2/3oz from peg 1, on peg 2 it was Simon Bone with 18 fish for 6lb 7 1/3oz taking second place on the podium on fish count back to Adrian Bordianu third week in a row on the podium but this time taking third place with 16 fish for 6lb 7 1/3oz. Only Russell Taylor on peg 13 was close to these top 3 and only 1 and 1/3oz would have moved him into 2nd place as he had 19 fish for 6lb 6oz.

A close fought match but one that clearly shows how important a peg draw can be, and as a few seasoned veterans said last night , “Luck of the Draw”.

In Total 196 sizeable fish were caught and returned with a total weight of 69lb 11 1/3oz.

Next weeks match is at Bacton, meet as usual at the Red House Caravan Park, this match is a rover but please make sure you are near someone to record your fish.
